Beginnings
Something ends, something begins and some things remain the same. The circle of talented artists in the Enso Circle online residency have been a great support to me and I am honored to be a part of it. Without a second thought, I signed up as a continuing resident because the connection we have is so inspiring and positive.
During one of our meetings last year, I shared with the group that I came across a little journal entry written earlier in the year. I wished to meet more like-minded people. A few months later, serendipity happened. I received a newsletter in my inbox that I could easily have deleted while doing some cleaning out of my email. I read about on online residency that interested me and I applied. My application was accepted and my excitement to begin a new artistic journey was welcome after a very difficult year. I was steered to no longer working in a vacuum, but alongside talented artists and teachers who understand and respect each other.
My annual practice of writing out my goals and dreams for the year continues and some things that didn’t get done, will get tacked onto the list for this year. When I come across something that I wished for in the past and realize “oh, I get to check that off the list” it makes me so happy to see a manifestation be fulfilled.
I have become very conscious of finding joy in the “process” of art making and taking my time, rather than feeling rushed or pressured to “produce”. I look forward to the possibilities of the future and want to enjoy “being in the moment” as much as one can. I invite you to slow down, take a breath and notice little details that you might not witness in the rush of life. The forms of trees, the color and crunch of leaves underfoot, the squirrel peaking from a branch or the scent of orange blossoms beginning their bloom.
Life is so very fleeting and I have come to realize that for me, joy is all about the small moments, the normal moments in life. At the beginning of adulthood you look forward to the BIG moments in your future but all the steps one takes “in-between” life’s chapters are so valuable too.
